Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 31, 2026

CANhunt (“we”, “our”, or “us”) operates the CANhunt mobile application and the https://canhunt.app website. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our services.

Information We Collect

Information You Provide

  • Account information: When you create an account, we collect your email address and display name.
  • Hunt log data: Sightings, harvests, notes, and photos you voluntarily record in the app.
  • Subscription information: Payment processing is handled by Apple (App Store) and Google (Play Store). We do not store your payment card details.

Information Collected Automatically

  • Location data: With your permission, we access your device's GPS to display your position on maps, provide weather data, and enable offline map downloads. Location data is processed on-device and is not transmitted to our servers unless you explicitly save a hunt log entry.
  • Device information: Device model, operating system version, and app version for troubleshooting and compatibility.
  • Analytics: We use Google Analytics on this website and in the app to understand how they are used. On the website this covers page views, session duration and general usage patterns. In the app it covers which features are used and how far you get through key flows, recorded as counts and short category labels — never your GPS coordinates, spots, notes, or the species you hunt. In both cases Google also records an approximate location derived from your IP address (country, region and city — not a precise position) and basic device details. This data is aggregated and does not personally identify you. You can opt out at any time — see Cookies and Tracking below.

How We Use Your Information

  • To provide and maintain the CANhunt app and services
  • To process your offline map downloads and display boundary data
  • To provide weather and conditions data for your location
  • To improve our services based on aggregated usage patterns
  • To communicate service updates and changes

Data Storage and Security

Your hunt log data and offline maps are stored locally on your device. Account data and synced content are stored on secure servers hosted by Google Cloud Platform in Canada. We use industry-standard encryption for data in transit (TLS) and at rest.

Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with:

  • Service providers: Google Cloud Platform (hosting), Firebase (authentication), RevenueCat (subscription management), Google Analytics (website and app usage measurement), Firebase Crashlytics (crash and error diagnosis).
  • Legal requirements: When required by law or to protect our rights.

Your Rights Under PIPEDA

As a Canadian service, we comply with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). You have the right to:

  • Access your personal information
  • Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Withdraw consent for data collection
  • Request deletion of your account and data

To exercise these rights, contact us at contact@canhunt.app.

Cookies and Tracking

Our website uses cookies for essential site functionality, and Google Analytics cookies to measure how the site is used. The Google Analytics cookies record a randomly generated identifier for your browser so that repeat visits can be counted as one visitor rather than several. They do not contain your name, email address, or any information that identifies you personally, and we have disabled advertising personalization signals, so this data is not used to build advertising profiles or shown to advertisers.

The app does not use cookies. It measures usage against a randomly generated identifier for your app installation, which is not your account and does not follow you to other apps. We collect no advertising identifier, so this measurement cannot be joined to advertising profiles.

We rely on implied consent for this measurement, as permitted under PIPEDA for non-sensitive information collected within a user's reasonable expectations. You can opt out at any time — on the website using the control below, or by blocking cookies for this site in your browser settings; in the app under Settings → Privacy. A website opt-out is remembered per browser and per device. An opt-out in the app is stored with your account, so it follows you to every device you sign in on.

Analytics preferences

We use Google Analytics to count page views and understand which parts of the site are useful. You can turn this off for this browser at any time.
